Recently Papamoa College won the Education Project award in the Registered Master Builders 2011 House of the Year and RMB Commercial Project Awards, in association with PlaceMakers.
Papamoa College was a design and build contract which included the formation of a 7.5 hectare site to accommodate two sports fields, car parking, netball courts and the construction of a building which consisted of an administration, library, theatre, gymnasium, technology & learning commons blocks, equipment shed and two boundary fences.
The school has been designed to accommodate a final roll of 1,100 students from years seven to 13. As a result of careful research into the international approach to best practice secondary education, there was a joint decision made with the MoE to adopt and develop a learning commons approach to the design.
With 98 per cent of locally resourced sub-contractors, the project gained great momentum and practical completion was issued two weeks ahead of schedule. Papamoa College is a Five Star Green Building.
