CPIT announces 100 new scholarships for 2012

CPIT is delighted to announce 100 new ‘CPIT Ara Ake Rise Up Scholarships’, aimed at supporting people keen to enter tertiary education in 2012. The scholarships acknowledge young academics, emerging leaders, sportspeople, and those committed to culture and their community.
The new CPIT scholarships will be available for the 2012 academic year and are part of CPIT’s commitment to the recovery of the Canterbury region. The scholarships will provide a full tuition refund for students in their first year of enrolment at CPIT in a diploma or degree programme.
CPIT’s chief executive Kay Giles is delighted with the CPIT scholarship initiative as it will encourage people into tertiary education and provide them with financial assistance. “In these challenging times it is a significant commitment to our community and to the future of Christchurch. These new scholarships will see many students receive support so that they can begin their studies for the tertiary qualification they need to launch their careers,” she said.
A wide range of scholarships will be available, from recognition of all round excellence to Maori and Pasifika programme specific awards. The variety of scholarships reflects the diversity of CPIT students and their interests.
“CPIT is committed to helping up and coming young people excel in their chosen field, no matter what that may be,” CPIT council chairperson, Jenn Bestwick said. “Christchurch has a huge need for more skilled young people. Students entering into study next year will be integral to the region’s recovery,” she said.
Students can be awarded scholarships based on academic achievement, their leadership potential or their involvement in sporting, cultural or community activities. Awards are also available to support and encourage promising young people entering tertiary education under hardship.
