Northcross Intermediate’s dramatic musical of ‘The Pearl’

In 2009, Northcross Intermediate adapted Franz Kafkea short story metamorphosis for the school production. The show proved a great success with full houses and a healthy profit to invest in our arts program.

Two years later the schools music and drama department has followed the same process, adapting the classic short story masterpiece- Steinbeck’s The Pearl into a dramatic musical.

Northcross’ drama teacher, Mark Jensen has developed a resource which will enable classroom teachers to enjoy the live theatre of the pearl, and relate this experience to enriching follow-up activities for the general classroom teacher.

“Many children do not experience live theatre these days, it is important that they do. A classic short story like the pearl, with all its themes, dilemmas and energy can invigorate a child’s approach to literature. It can provide a holistic approach towards learning.”

Teachers interested in the Pearl resources can receive a information package from markj@northcross.school.nz
