Kiwis win Oscar for education resource
A Kiwi company, which developed an interactive whiteboard reading comprehension resource, has won an international award that is comparable to the Oscar for the educational resource community.
Learning Media Ltd received the Distinguished Achievement Technology Award from the American Association of Educational Publishers (AEP).
One of the largest and longest-running awards programmes for educational products, the AEP awards recognise the most innovative and groundbreaking education products internationally. AEP is supported by nearly 400 print and digital publishers of all sizes and in all media.
The awarded program Strategy Zone helps teachers to improve students’ literacy and their reading comprehension ability through digital texts that can be used on interactive whiteboards, data projectors or computers in classrooms.
Its main focus is the exploration and use of key comprehension strategies that students need to meet the reading requirements of the NZ curriculum.
The software allows teachers to design lessons based on the real learning needs of their students. Using engaging features such as drag-and-drop of text and images and other embedded interactive elements, the program supports students to explore and use targeted comprehension strategies.
