Teachers go ‘globel’

Excited: Jodie Moore

Twenty New Zealand teachers have been selected for an intensive two-week study programme at the Globe Theatre in London in July, 2011.

The teachers from across the country are part of the first Teachers Go Global programme organised by the Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ.

The course is aimed to inspire and challenge teachers, providing invaluable professional development at a world-renowned institution.

Jodie Moore from Tauranga Girls’ College is one of the selected teachers to join this opportunity, which will see her partaking in workshops in movement, voice and text.

“I’m extremely excited about this opportunity and I’m counting down the weeks until we leave for the UK,” she says.

“I’m looking forward to immersing myself in everything ‘Shakespeare’ for two weeks and sharing the experience with like-minded teachers.”

Jodie will meet with actors, musicians and designers, and rehearse scenes from on Shakespeare’s plays, which she will perform for the public on the Globe stage.

She says, “It will be an honour to represent New Zealand teachers… and to have the opportunity to share the knowledge gained with my colleagues and students.”

Upon Jodie’s return she will develop resources, run workshops, mentor students, assist teachers and rehearse performances for entry into the annual University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival.

Each selected teacher is now responsible for raising the $7000 required to fund this opportunity. Jodie has been able to raise $500 to date and is looking at creative ways to raise more money.
