Auckland schools get behind RWC programme
More than 90 per cent of Auckland primary and intermediate schools have signed up for Auckland’s Rugby World Cup 2011 schools programme.
This means more than 400 Auckland primary and intermediate schools – around 125,000 pupils – will have the chance to participate in RWC 2011 through this education programme.
The free programme provides schools with classroom resources, sport development equipment, festival dressing materials and an Adopt-a-second-team activity pack for every student.
The initiative will be rolled out in term three to ready students for RWC 2011, which kicks off on September 9th, 2011.
Len Brown says the high uptake of the programme is a strong endorsement that RWC 2011 is about much more than just Rugby.
“This is a superb result to see so many schools embracing this opportunity. We want RWC 2011 to be an event that all Aucklanders can get excited about and involved in.
“The thousands of children who will receive these free packs will love the chance to learn about the countries competing in RWC 2011, as well as having a go at Rippa Rugby.”
Rippa Rugby, the new game for primary schools, is a very safe, non-contact, easy to play game for both boys and girls alike. It promotes excellent ball handling and running skills, and gives all kids a chance to participate in the national game.
