AUSTRALIA – A National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence took place in schools throughout Australia on March 18th, 2011.
Schools held activities to raise awareness of anti-bullying initiatives in their school communities.
‘Bystander behaviour’ was the focus for the 2011 National Day and school communities were encouraged to Take a Stand Together.
Bystanders are usually present, either online or in person, when bullying occurs. When bystanders intervene in some way, the bullying is more likely to stop quickly. No single response will prevent bullying.
It is important for school communities to appropriately include students, parents and staff in these responses to assist in creating a safe and supportive school environment.
