Kiwi Kids take on the world with Google
Google is helping kids find their passion for science exploration through the Google Science Fair - a global, online science competition open to students in New Zealand and around the world.
Open to students aged 13-18 years old, the Google Science Fair invites young scientists from around the world to submit interesting, creative science projects across a range of disciplines that are relevant to the world today.
Kids who were passionate about science grew up to build the internet, find stars and become astronauts, develop new ways of treating burns victims and identify climate change.
The Google Science Fair gives our next generation of science explorers a platform to discover their passion for science - in a relevant way, using online tools, and making it easy - all you need to participate is a computer, an internet connection and a web browser.
Google’s partners in the Google Science Fair include NASA, National Geographic, LEGO, CERN and Scientific American.
Students can compete in teams of up to three people or as individuals in their choice of 11 categories. The categories include: computer science and maths, earth and environmental sciences, behavioural and social sciences, flora and fauna, energy and space, inventions and innovation, physics, biology, chemistry, food science and electricity and electronics.
Finalists are invited to go with a parent or guardian to the California Google Headquarters where they will meet some of the world’s top scientists. The deadline for submissions is Monday, 4th April. Entrants compete for internships, scholarships and other prizes.
