Balloon Day in year planner now!
More than half a million school days are lost to asthma in New Zealand each year. This is why the Asthma Foundation urges schools to put the Asthma Awareness Week 2011 in their year planners now.
The week will run from 27th April to 3rd May, 2011 – with the main fundraising day on Friday, 29th April, 2011. As this is the last day of school holidays, the foundation encourages schools to hold their balloon day activities where it fits best in their term schedule.
Schools that fundraise for the Foundation can choose to share the proceeds, keeping half and sending half to the Asthma Foundation. Prizes will also be awarded to the schools that raise the most money (per school and per student).
In the past few years, hundreds of schools across the country have supported Balloon Day by putting up posters, blowing up balloons and holding enjoyable fundraising events, such as coin trails, mufti days and competitions to guess the number of balloons in a car. Schools will be provided with a list of suggested activities.
