Schools can register until the 15th of October, 2010 to participate in the NZ Vegemite Spelling Bee and have the chance to spell their way to Washington DC to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in June 2011.
The Spelling Bee is offered to year eight students and registration costs $99 US for each eligible participating school.
2010 champ Tom Winter, a 13-year-old Burnside High School student, got through to the semi finals in Washington DC. More than 11 million students participate in the competition, so for Tom to be one of the top 48 spellers was an extraordinary achievement.
