We want your news
Eduvac/The Education Weekly welcomes news and information from schools and communities by e-mail, fax or mail.
It can be e-mailed to eduvac@millspublish.co.nz with attention news in the subject line along with digital photographs saved as jpeg images – full-sized images only.
You can also send it to our postal address: PO Box 26-302, Epsom, Auckland 1344, or by Fax to 09-849 7103.
We don’t expect you to become instant journalists and send in perfectly worded and structured stories. If needed we can re-write it for you.
We love photos too, so have a think about what would best illustrate what you want to say.
To help we have a set of guidelines.
1. Are you a non-profit group of volunteers who get together over a common interest? Then your news might fit in too. Remember it is not an advertising service.
2. Don’t worry about writing a story. Just put all the information down, remembering to cover the key points of: who, where, when, what and why. If you are posting the information, we prefer typewritten and double spaced copy. Handwriting is fine if you print clearly and on every second line.
3. If you are writing about an upcoming event try to get the information to us at least two weeks beforehand to increase your chances of it running in the paper.
4. Make sure you include a contact name and telephone number in case we need further information.
5. We love publishing photos. Colour prints – the kind you get developed every day – are fine. Or e-mail us your digital photos.
Try to get reasonably close shots of people’s faces, rather than taking a shot from the back of a hall or room of someone at the front. Shots of people shaking hands while they grin at the camera are done too often to be exciting. Send prints rather than negatives, preferably copies. If you do need your photos back we will try to send them back to you if you put your name and address (write softly) on the back of the print.
6. We sometimes publish briefs about when groups meet, but please do not see us as a free advertising service and ask us to put the same information in week after week. That is not the purpose of the community news pages. We want to have room for your successes, plans and possibly frustrations.
