Variety and Solid Gold want to help Kiwi kids

Variety – The Children’s Charity is calling for grant applications from sick, disabled and disadvantaged Kiwi kids, their families and child-related organisations nationwide.

The charity is teaming up with Solid Gold FM to bring a radiothon to NZ’s airwaves on 13th-15th August to raise money for the grants.

“Listeners can expect celebrity DJs, fantastic auction items, fun, and lots more. We’ll be urging the NZ public to make a donation to help fund these grants and show Kiwi kids in need that we care!” said Lorraine Taylor, CEO of Variety – The Children’s Charity.

Examples of items that may be considered for funding include individual children’s needs such as specialised bikes and trikes, specialised/educational toys and equipment, or funding for an organisational need such as educational resources, medical equipment, sports/play/art and cultural equipment, or customised equipment for children with special needs.

“As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we are pleased to be partnering with Solid Gold FM for this radiothon – it is an excellent opportunity for Variety to help even more children in need,” said Ms Taylor.

“We urge families, schools and child welfare organisations nationwide to get their grant applications to the Variety office before 30th June, 2010,” she continued.

Applications are considered by Variety’s Grants Committee and funds are granted to those projects the committee considers will make a tangible difference to improving the quality of life of sick, disabled and disadvantaged NZ children aged up to 18 years.

Since its inception in NZ in 1989, Variety has distributed over $11.7 million to Kiwi kids in need.
