The Waikato Animal Welfare Foundation has announced its intention to develop the country’s first major animal welfare education initiative.

The Waikato Animal Welfare Foundation has purchased a block of buildings and land on Wintec’s Avalon Campus in Hamilton.

A portion of the complex has been offered for lease to the Waikato SPCA.

Wintec vet nursing, as well as animal care and science students, will have the opportunity to work alongside SPCA staff as part of their degree programmes.

The new Waikato SPCA headquarters and education unit has been named ‘The Animal House.’

Spokesperson and trustee of the Waikato Animal Welfare Foundation, Jan Thomson, says this educational initiative is a first for NZ.
