Barnardos celebrates 40 years in NZ communities
Barnardos has celebrated the 40th anniversary of its incorporation in Aotearoa NZ. However, the child-focused organisation is anything but growing old.
“We are very proud of our work in NZ over the past 40 years, working closely with children, young people and their families, and supporting and enabling parents to do their best for their children,” says Murray Edridge, chief executive of Barnardos NZ.
“Our first service opened in Mangere, Manukau City, in 1972. It included a childcare centre, on-site social workers, and housing for mothers and their children. Since then, we have expanded our services and thousands of children and families right throughout NZ have received help and support from Barnardos when they needed it.
“Barnardos is looking forward with anticipation to the next 40 years,” concludes Mr Edridge.
