Continued access to research facilities

AUSTRALIA – Australian researchers will continue to have access to key offshore research infrastructure, such as international physics and astronomy facilities, thanks to a further $880,000 (NZ$1,146,000) in Australian Government funding.

This new funding increases the government’s commitment to international research engagement.

Senator Kim Carr, the minister for innovation, industry, science and research announced that, the Access to Major Research Facilities (AMRF) programme had been extended to provide project funding for a further two years.

“The Australian Government is committed to placing our researchers at the very forefront of scientific discovery,” Senator Carr said.

The programme is managed by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), and will focus on astronomy, neutron scattering and physics.

“This programme is delivering concrete results with 50 research publications so far and a further 100 expected from work already undertaken. The extension of the program will bring the total commitment to $3 million over five years,” Senator Carr said.
