Japan scholarship for Waikato Management School student
A Waikato Management School student has won one of two scholarships for NZ students offered by the Japan Airlines Foundation to participate in a 17-day programme aimed at boosting cultural awareness in the Asia-Pacific region.
Former Te Puke High School student Jeremy Harwood will travel to Tokyo on 29th June, where he will join 23 other students from 11 countries in the region for a range of activities on the theme of international co-operation.
He will be staying with Japanese families during his visit, which will take in three main cities and include lectures, discussion forums and cultural activities.
Mr Harwood, who is in his third year of a Bachelor of Management Studies at Waikato, majoring in strategic management and accounting, says he’s thrilled to be given this opportunity.
“Working overseas is a big factor in my career plans, and this scholarship will give me a great insight into international co-operation and also different cultures.”
Mr Harwood already has three years’ experience under his belt as a business advisory accountant at KPMG Tauranga, and is currently active in the Waikato Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) group.
More than 1,300 students have benefited from the annual JAL scholarship programme since it began in 1975.
