Dislec sick exhibition for awareness

Those of us who deal with dyslexia on a daily basis know only too well the frustration it can bring.

Having had three children with dyslexia, Wellington artist Rosie White knows this first hand and has put together a provocative new exhibition that showcases some of the challenges school children face.

The exhibition, titled dislec sick?, features 18 transparent school bags containing messages that reflect the injustice and humiliation that students with learning difficulties are often subject to.

These messages, from students, parents and educators, form powerful statements of difference and how this is viewed in the classroom.

As the countdown continues to this year’s Dyslexia Action Week (15th-21st June) – with its theme of ‘Actions Speak Louder than Words’, we welcome Rosie White’s initiative in taking matters into her own hands to raise awareness and champion change.

dislec sick? is now showing in Wellington until Saturday 23rd May and we would encourage you to visit if you are in the area: Bowen Galleries, 35 Ghuznee Street.
