Dyslexia and Reading – they are related

In May 2008, Dr Jean Schedler (USA) treated the SPELD conference attendees to a ride on “The Bus” – a journey into the history and research progress in the fields of dyslexia and reading.

NZ has clearly joined the journey as reflected in the recent publication “about dyslexia” (December 2008). The government publication provides NZ – the country…with a working definition and rationale of dyslexia as well as a draft of Next Steps.

This month, March 2009, Dr Schedler returned to NZ and conducted teacher workshops in dyslexia and reading, as well as reading intervention trainings, in Auckland and Chrischurch.

The workshops and trainings were aligned with the “about dyslexia” Handbook.

Dr Schedler has 35 years combined experience as an academic tester, reading consultant, intervention trainer and classroom teacher and conducts workshops and intervention trainings nationally (USA) and internationally.

Dr Schedler’s workshops are sponsored through Read Auckland (director Ms Jenni Wiles).
