Balloon Day campaign starts
The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation’s 2009 Balloon Day campaign is under way and this year schools can register on-line and request resources at www.asthmafoundation.org.nz
Through awareness and fund-raising activities last year primary, secondary and pre-schools helped raise $40,000 for research that benefited children with asthma. You can bolster your school’s coffers too. For each $1 schools raise, 50 cents goes to the Foundation and the school keeps the rest.
For example: a lunchtime bazaar at a school near Levin included pentaque and gumboot throwing; Cannon’s Creek school in Porirua had a competition for who had the reddest outfit and a gold coin donation. At Aorangi School in Canterbury they held an asthma quiz.
The Foundation is again stressing the message that one in four kiwi kids has asthma and reminding NZ’ers of the way asthma affects so many young lives.
Entry forms for this year’s colouring competition featuring Levi, the Mitre 10 MEGA man, are available on the Foundation’s website too.
If you want to discuss your school’s options, call Malcolm on 04-499 4592.
Balloon Day itself this year is on 9th May, 2009, and part of Asthma Awareness Week: 4th May to 10th May.
