Public lecture series targets boys’ learning

University academics, school principals and boys’ learning experts are set to deliver the latest research and study results of boys’ learning at an up coming course held at The University of Waikato.

The university’s Centre for Continuing Education will hold the course which consists of Thursday evening lectures over five weeks from 5th March.

The course was put together in response to a request for more information regarding the learning and social issues faced by boys, with one of the focuses Maori and Pasifika students.

Lecture titles include Gender Issues, Gifted Boys, Migrant Students, and Best Practices for Boys, which includes practical activities.

The lecture series is designed for parents, teachers, social workers, career advisors and youth group leaders.

Keynote speakers include Hamilton Boys’ High School principal Susan Hassall and Waikato University Associate Professors Angus Macfarlane and Monica Payne. Graeme Miller, also from Hamilton Boys’ High School, will present the latest research and issues concerning gifted boys.

Attendees can enrol in the five-week course for $40 or attend the lectures on a one-off basis for $10.

The lectures will be held at the university’s satellite campus, 21 Ruakura Road, Hamilton.
