Valerie vs the Machine
The Valloon.
Schools had the chance last year to design machines to compete against Valerie Vili.
The finalists had their machines made and were flown up to Auckland to put their machine to the ultimate test during December.
The competition, run by Visa, challenged school children to design a machine to throw a shotput further than Valerie’s gold medal-winning throw of 20.56 metres.
The Valloon:
Duvauchelle School students Madaline Hutchinson, Bianca Gilmore, Hunter Ball and Dylan Bryan and their winning creation ‘The Valloon’– which proved a tough competitor for Olympic gold medallist and Visa Olympic Ambassador Valerie Vili when they went head to head in Auckland.
This highly original creation beat over 400 other entries to be named one of two winning designs in the Valerie vs the Machine competition winning the school $10,000.
Mega Grunta:
This extreme machine was put to the test against Valerie Vili in Auckland early December. The ‘Mega Grunta’ was designed by students Rhyan Jane and Brandan Taylor from Central Hawkes Bay College (pictured with Valerie Vili).
The ‘Mega Grunta’ bet over 400 other entries to be named one of two winning designs in the Valerie vs the Machine competition.
