Christchurch eDay for schools was an outstanding success says local organiser Insite Technology.
A mountain of unused IT equipment will be safely and sustainably disposed of thanks to the efforts of local schools.
More than 15 tonnes of computer gear was delivered to local organiser Insite Technology, says general manager Jan Paterson.
“It was an incredible response from the local schools and shows that they understand how important it is to recycle unused computer equipment carefully.”
Ms Paterson said they had received a wide variety of equipment.
Local computer assembler Insite Technology offered its premises as a drop off point for the disposal of Canterbury schools’ unused IT equipment during the 2008 national School eDay initiative.
Developed in association with the national eDay programme, School eDay 2008 provided schools with an easy and free way to recycle unused IT equipment, while aiming to increase awareness amongst students about the dangers of inappropriate disposal of e-waste.
Although the initiative finished on Friday 3rd October after running for two weeks, schools still wanting to participate can contact Rachael Tobeck to arrange drop off of equipment they may still have – Phone 03-353 2282.
