Worldbuddies for students and families

World Vision has launched a new way of doing Child Sponsorship called Worldbuddies. Designed to engage young NZers in social action, involve parents and support the education work being done by teachers, Worldbuddies is Child Sponsorship with a difference.

With on-going activities for engagement, NZ sponsors will encourage their children to develop a friendship with their sponsored child, helping them to become positive contributors to society. Available on-line, the activities are up-dated each term.

Classes and schools can also sponsor a child and be involved in the Worldbuddies programme. This enables everyone in the group to participate in Worldbuddy activities, and gives the teaching staff the chance to add the programme to their curriculum toolkit.

“Worldbuddies is a natural fit with the new curriculum in that it supports the work teachers are doing around core vision, values and key competencies,” says World Vision’s Jenny Burke.

“The programme encourages children to get to grips with being a global citizen, value diversity, fairness and social justice.”

The children in need of sponsorship through the Worldbuddy programme live in two countries, Tanzania and Zambia. Key issues faced by these children include malnutrition, lack of access to clean water, healthcare and education.

The funds raised through Worldbuddies Child Sponsorship go to helping these communities to overcome the issues they face.
