Waikato Diocesan School for Girls has won the 2008 National Secondary Schools Squash Tournament, held at Kawaroa Park New Plymouth, during August.
Top seeds Waikato Dio, dominated throughout the tournament, beating Epsom Girls Grammar three games to two in the final.
Dio’s number one player Kendyl Morris, was also selected as number two player in the National Tournament team, placing her as the second ranked secondary school female player in NZ.
Coach Julie Bunn says the Dio team of Kendyl Morris, Jorja Tarrant, Kendra Sneddon, Kimberley Bunn (C), Hope Sneddon, and Tate Morris had their eyes firmly on the prize after placing second at the National Tournament in 2007.
“In 2005 Dio was the bottom placed secondary school team. In just four years Waikato Diocesan has moved up to be top seeds. It really is a remarkable achievement,” she says.
Forty-one secondary school teams competed in the tournament with Auckland Boys’ Grammar taking out the boy’s title beating Christchurch Boys’ High School.
