Waikato Uni looks out for local ECE's and schools
Another half dozen EC centres and schools will benefit this month from computer upgrades at the University of Waikato.
The university, which has for many years donated some retired computer equipment to schools, has this year decided to make the gesture an official policy across the university.
After the university’s regular computer upgrades, retired computer equipment in good condition will go to EC centres or schools.
University computers are upgraded about every four years. The university’s director of ITS, Kevin Adamson, said the organisation had a regular programme of upgrading its 4500 PCs, and he expected several dozen each year would be of a good enough standard to be donated to EC centres, primary and secondary schools.
Already this year nearly 50 computers have been distributed.
This month a total of 46 computers will go to Wharepuhunga Playcentre, Paterangi School, Ohaupo School, Te Kauri Waikuku Trust which teaches environmental education to school children and runs ecological restoration at Te Kauri Park – an 1100ha reserve near Kawhia, and Te Awamutu Intermediate School.
EC centres and schools can approach the university with requests for computing equipment by e-mailing coms4u@waikato.ac.nz and stating how many computers they need and what they are needed for.
