Bringing your future career Inzone
Making a career choice is one of the most difficult decisions in a teenagers’ life.
For the around 55,000 students who leave secondary education each year in NZ, finding out what options were available has, until now, remained very much with the individual student.
As a result he, or she, might not be aware of the wide variety of career choices available in NZ – from tertiary study to trades; from military training to travel.
Now, a $1.5 million innovative new mobile display – the Inzone Experience Careers Unit – has been specifically designed to assist students in identifying their future career path within successful NZ companies, enterprises and industry as well as through tertiary institutes.
Inzone managing director, Simon Holbrook, said the idea behind the Careers Unit sprang from their motivational roadshow – The Inzone Experience – which has visited schools around the country since 2003.
“Inzone travels the country each year talking to teenagers. It became very clear the greatest problem facing students was how to decide their future career,” he said.
“This lead to the development of the Inzone Careers Unit to provide them with ready access to a wide range of information in a format they understand.”
Based within a state of the art, custom built, roadshow vehicle, at nearly 14 metres long and over four metres high with expandable sides, the Inzone Careers Unit is fully mobile, able to relocate daily and be set up at any number of remote locations within minutes. It incorporates external plasma screen displays, a full PA sound system, and air conditioning.
The career unit also removes the logistics involved with transporting students to event venues and ensures all NZ teenagers – wherever their location – can be provided with a wide variety of career choice; in a format they readily understand.
And the uptake from schools has been tremendous already.
“Over the next 14 months we will be visiting 192 secondary schools spread throughout the country,” Mr Holbrook said.
“Because of Inzone’s bus design, we are able to take the unit literally anywhere – it opens up the opportunity to showcase career opportunities to any teenager anywhere in the country.”
Housing 22 audio-visual display pods, students are able to access immediate information about a wide number of career opportunities – including all the Armed Forces, NZ Police; hairdressing, fashion, travel as well as tertiary to technical institutions. If they require further information they can apply directly on-line.
“Teachers are already finding the Inzone Careers Unit a great help with younger pupils too,” Mr Holbrook said.
